letting go.

letting go.

Some of us want everything to go right. Especially when we’ve worked very hard at something.

About 3 years ago, I ordered 25 daffodil bulbs from a reputable company. I measured the depth with a ruler and followed the instructions carefully.

First spring: they all came up but only 6 flowered.

Second spring: same thing.

This spring: same thing.

I was tired of being disappointed. I worked hard. I researched.  I fed them fertilizer. I was patient. But my hope was dashed once again, seeing dark, green leaves but no stem and no cheery flower.

So, I dug up the bulbs of the non-flowering daffodils and tossed them.

There’s something to be said for staying the course. But there’s also something to be said for changing course when something isn’t working.

Only you can determine how this will work for you. But if you find yourself doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results, you’re setting yourself up.

Throwing those bulbs out was a huge step for me. I felt a tinge of guilt but I wouldn’t let it last. I had made up my mind and that was that.

How about you? Do you find yourself hanging onto something that you can really let go of?

I decided to enjoy the 6 flowering daffodils I had instead of exerting time and energy on something that clearly wasn’t going to work.

Let go and live with an uncluttered life!

guilt.

guilt.

Guilt hurts.

Sometimes we feel guilt when we know we did something wrong.

swallowed-in-the-sea_l

It’s painful until you face it. And when you do, God forgives.

But then there are times when the guilt comes from other people. They make you feel guilty by blaming, accusing, and manipulating.

I used to allow that kind of guilt in my life.

No more.

You can be free from it when you do not allow that poison in your life.

abortion.

abortion.

You may have had an abortion.

Deep inside, you may wonder if it was right or wrong.

You may feel the emotional pain from terminating your pregnancy, even if you were okay with it at the time.

If you are struggling with having an abortion, I have something to tell you. God forgives. You may not think you did anything wrong to need forgiveness. But the fact you are feeling so miserable, or the abortion still haunts you after several years, you may be dealing with guilt.

We are limited in our human understanding – as amazing as we are! We are wired to be hurt by our actions.

But the good part is God is merciful. The Bible tells us so much about how God is compassionate toward us.

God is not punishing you. God loves you. And He wants more than you know to not feel the guilt. He forgives when we go to Him. And only He, the one who made you, is able to erase the past.

guilt.

Have you spent your life beating yourself up with guilt?

Have you let others beat you up with guilt?

Are you really guilty? Or is it perceived?

Generally speaking, we all are guilty since we all do things wrong. But our guilt is redeemed through the greatest act of love the world has ever witnessed: Jesus Christ and him crucified.  When we receive this redemption from God, we really feel freedom!

But the kind of guilt we let others put on us or we put upon ourselves  – we never seem to feel free from. It smothers the life within you.  And if you are a person who is very caring about others, you may find yourself going beyond the extra mile to the point of suffering in ways God does not want for you.

See, even in times of suffering, we can feel freedom deep in our soul. It’s the stuff that produces hope. And God gives us strength and comfort to endure.

But if we are suffering and not feeling free or hopeful, it is a good indication that something is amiss.

You were made to soar! This is a gift from God to all of us. Even on cloudy days.

Don’t let guilt smother you. Think about what you are allowing in your life and why.

shame.

shame.

As the Scripture says, anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.

-The Bible

Shame comes from guilt.

It is a feeling of embarrassment after doing something foolish or wrong.

You want to rewind the tape.

But there is no rewinding.

But there is a way to rescue one who feels shame.

It’s called redemption.

God has a way to to fix a fault or a mistake.

He takes away the shame.

guilt.

It might have been your fault and you feel guilty.

Or it might not have been and someone makes you feel guilty.

Don’t you know a benevolent God exists – who takes every detail upon himself?

He opens up his hands and takes guilt away. Because he is so much greater he is able to do this. Because he loves he is able to do this.

Let him.
