pleasure.

pleasure.

We can be hurting so badly, we don’t see clearly.

Yet, God has ways to bring comfort. Our pain makes us sensitive to the ache in our heart, but it also makes us aware of small pleasures.

The way the morning sun filters through the window curtains, laying patterns on the bed.

The rhythm of rain lulling us to sleep.

These are not small things. They are meant to strike a chord deep within our souls and bring a smile.

This is God telling us He is with us.

Don’t miss the moments. They are all around you!

tears.

tears.

You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.

Psalm 56

tear-t2

There is so much in life we do not understand.

Why is one person unscathed from a car accident, and another dies?

 It hurts. Unbearably.

Yet, somehow in the midst of our pain, there are glimpses of God caring very personally for us.

He is a caring God. He collects our tears.

One day, we will understand. But for now, we trust.

dreams.

dreams.

You had dreams. But something happened to ruin things. And now you are discouraged.

Sometimes, it’s the choices of other people who ruin those dreams.  We can’t control those choices. Some people just aren’t willing to think about others first. You may have tried to communicate your feelings to no avail.

It hurts.

Meanwhile, you have choices, too. You can choose to let those broken dreams make life bitter or you can choose to enjoy life. It’s up to you. Because there’s plenty in life to enjoy if you’re looking. And one thing I’ve learned about God is this: he always has another path for us when there’s a dead end on the one we were on.

And those dreams?  You might be able to tuck them away and not give up on them just yet. The last chapter of your life has yet to be written!

live.

live.

It seems as if nothing will get better.

Looking at nature, we can learn much about life.

The earth is always renewing. Winters are long and all looks barren.

But beneath the earth there is life waiting to make its appearance.

100_5976

Your life may look barren.

It won’t always be that way.

The hope of spring is always in sight!

burdens.

burdens.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

yoke 2

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

-Jesus

God wants to take the weight of your pain, discouragement, frustration, and sorrow.

grief.

grief.

Grief is work.

dirty-hands3

I had never thought about it like that, until I was hit with it.

Grief plunges you into an abyss. The last thing you want to do is work yourself out of that bottomless pit.

But grief is not that kind of work – trying to “get better” or to feel normal.

The work is letting yourself be taken down an unfamiliar path, and going with it when you don’t want to.

You will not feel your old self because the person you lost was part of your old self.

Put your shovel down and rest.

help.

help.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

-The Bible

himalayan-moonrise-1_l

Have you ever looked up into the sky and felt exhilaration? It’s as if a rush of fresh energy fills your body.

When trouble comes, we were made to look for the Lord.

We are not sheltered from pain, but we can go to the one who relieves our pain. Only God can give us just what we need. He made us!

Look for Him. He’s already found you.

church.

church.

Have you been hurt by Christians?

Have you decided not to have anything to do with God because of this?

Or church?

Yes, people hurt people and it’s wrong.

But when I remembered how I have hurt people, too, it has helped me to put it into perspective.

church

God doesn’t hurt us like people hurt us.

Don’t avoid church because you might get hurt.

We have to take the bad with the good.

And there is more good than bad in church.

different.

different.

Your pain may be a mental disorder.

Do you know that is no different than having diabetes?

Our bodies are not perfect.

We break.

sad

But some people respond differently to mental disorders and it makes you feel abnormal.

You are not abnormal.

There is help and there is hope.

Sometimes it’s in the form of medication – just like insulin helps the diabetic.

Sometimes it’s in the form of having people around you that love and care about you.

And it’s always, always about knowing God sees the pain and he is with you, helping you.

People need people.

Don’t suffer alone.

Church is a good place to start.
