scripture friday.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.

Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

worry.

When something bad has happened to you, or someone you know, there is a tendency to begin thinking more about each step you take.

Could it happen to me? Could it happen to me again?

Well, yes. It could.

For years, (30 to be exact), this dependable, responsible, efficient writer thought, “But there is so much to take care of. How do I not think about it and…worry?”

It took the deepest pain of life – the loss of a child – to show me I didn’t have to worry.  That’s because the only one who can sufficiently lead you through the valley of the shadow of death, is God.

Because I made it through, knowing how I made it through, I realized just how little control we have.

My options were:

a) mistrust (leading to unrest, discontent, and bitterness)

b) trust (leading to peace, contentment, and joy)

You can’t have the latter unless you trust that someone is looking over things.

So now, I get it:

Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?

Matthew 6

give.

8. We All Have Something to Give

No matter how difficult our circumstances may be, we can all offer support to those around us. Whether it’s a penny, a dollar, or much more, the act of giving always makes us feel as if we have more than we thought we had.

-Rabbi Brad Hirschfield

These 8 tips are not meant to diminish the pain we feel in life.

But I can tell you one thing that I know to be true: when you look to God for all you need, you will not be disappointed. He has all things in His hands. Only God offers peace and even joy when life brings us great sorrow. And only when you know Him in that way, can you trust Him – and be thankful.

choice.

The Bible tells us about Job and the horror of his pain. He lost everything he had – even his children – and was attacked with physical pain.

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.

This was Job’s response to God.

That’s not to say he didn’t question his demise, but after processing all that happened to him, he made a choice to trust God. This is an acknowledgement of accepting that God is over all. It begins and ends with Him.

It’s a choice every Christian comes face to face with. It is a choice that reveals one’s devotion to God. Because if the going gets tough, it’s easy to bail out.

God wants us to have joy and peace. No matter what the circumstances, we will have both when we choose to trust God with everything.

If we choose not to trust God…we won’t.

time.

There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.

-The Bible

memories.

Some memories are  unwelcome, dark shadows that creep in without invitation. They make reliving the pain torturous.

If you are a victim of painful memories, there is hope. It is not a pat answer or a quick fix by any means. But you must know that God, the Creator of mankind, provides comfort and peace. The memory will not have access whenever it pleases when you learn that God will help you through your pain.

Ask Him. He hears every prayer. I promise.
